Personnel of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority and the Ghana Immigration Service stationed at the Kulungugu border in the Pusiga district clashed yesterday over disagreements regarding the payment of some border fees.

According to sources at the border, the disagreement ensued between the on-duty personnel of the two state security agencies after an importer from Burkina Faso resisted paying an amount of 5 GHC as a booking fee demanded by personnel of the Immigration Service.

The sources said the importer, who had earlier dealt with the Customs Division and paid for all the necessary paperwork, did not see the need to pay again at the Immigration Service border.

The importer, therefore, reported the incident back to the Customs Division, who then confronted the Immigration Service to facilitate free passage for the importer.

The approach, however, turned violent as the personnel of the Immigration Service resisted the intervention by their counterparts. Even though no injuries were reported, the personnel of the two agencies engaged in the scuffle for over an hour.

The District Chief Executive for Pusiga, Zubeiru Abdulai, who confirmed the incident to TV3, said he has held engagements with the border heads of the two security agencies to resolve the disagreements.
