Four teenagers, aged between 11 and 13 years, narrowly escaped beating after they were arrested for breaking into three shops and stealing at midnight in Ekumfi Immuna in the Central Region.

According to reports gathered by Kasapa News’ Yaw Boagyan, the suspects stole items including packets of drinks, biscuits, sugar and gari among other provisions.

Residents who witnessed the act reported hearing the sound of a padlock being broken and rushed to the scene, only to find the teenagers in the store with a bag full of stolen items. They apprehended the teens, tied them up, and took them to the Chief’s Palace.

The Chiefs and Opinion Leaders of the community condemned the act. Nana Odwirey Ababio, the Odikro of Ekumfi Immuna, stated that this was not the first time such incidents had occurred in the community. He expressed concern over the increasing rate of thefts reported by residents.

Nana Odwirey Ababio said the suspects would be sent to juvenile cells for their misconduct and suggested that their actions were orchestrated by older teenagers.

He promised to ensure that the suspects receive proper rehabilitation. He also advised parents to take good care of their children and educate them to avoid stealing.

Meanwhile, a police officer who was involved in taking the suspects to the Chief’s Palace assured residents that adequate security measures would be put in place to protect the community.

He mentioned plans to collaborate with the Chiefs and Elders to safeguard properties in the area.

The suspects have been taken to the police station and are assisting with the investigation.
