Parliamentary Candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Asuogyaman Constituency, Pius Enam Hadzide has urged residents of the area to elect him as a Member of Parliament if they want to travel to the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Mr. Hadzide speaking at a campaign stop in the constituency assured the young people who wished to travel outside the country that he would realise their aspiration when he became their representative, citing his track record of facilitating such trips.
“It takes 18 hours to travel from Ghana to Australia and even with that, I was able to send people there. With this upcoming World Cup, it will be played in America. It takes just seven hours to travel to America.
“Chiefs, if you want your children to travel to America to earn a living in order for them to earn money for you, vote for me. If you’re a young person here in Besase and New Town; when I, Piusm come into office, I will take you there,” Mr. Hadzide said to rapturous cheers.
Mr. Hadzide was investigated as Deputy Minister for Sports after the Australian Visa scandal in which some Ghanaians allegedly schemed to acquire visas as reporters in order to attend the Commonwealth Games in that country.
He was later cleared of any wrongdoing.
His comments come amidst an incessant desire among young Ghanaians to move abroad to make a living owing to the difficult economic conditions the country is facing.
The parliamentary candidate likened it to a transactional relationship when he insisted that if the constituents helped him succeed, he would also assist them travel to Europe and other advanced countries.
