The leader and founder of the Ghana Freedom Party, Madam Akua Donkor, has come to the defense of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, asserting that she harbors no ill will toward anyone but is simply dedicated to fulfilling her responsibilities.
Speaking on the Ghana Kasa Morning Show with Kweku Ofosu, Madam Akua Donkor emphasized that Jean Mensa’s actions are not influenced by personal biases, but are instead guided by a commitment to uphold the laws that govern the electoral process. “Jean Mensa doesn’t hate anyone, but you have to do what is required of you to avoid any issues with her,” she remarked.
According to the outspoken politician, the Electoral Commission plays an essential role in Ghana’s democracy, likening the institution to a divine authority. “The EC is like Ghana’s God because it is the Commission that determines who qualifies to contest elections,” she explained. She further expressed that her respect for the EC Chair stems from this critical role, stating, “God gave us Jean Mensa, so if the Electoral Commission asks me to do something, that is exactly what I will do.”
Madam Akua Donkor also cautioned that anyone who fails to follow the EC’s directives will face consequences under the law. She issued a stern warning to those who speak ill of Jean Mensa, declaring, “Whoever speaks ill of Jean Mensa will not be forgiven by God.”
