Osafohene Dr. Afua Asabea Asare, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) has revealed that the country’s non-traditional exports (NTEs) have surged by an impressive 11.75% in 2023, marking the highest growth rate since the Authority’s inception in 1969.
During a recent press briefing at the Ministry of Information, GEPA’s CEO, Osafohene Dr. Afua Asabea Asare I, emphasized the significant role that Ghana’s over 3,000 registered exporters play in this achievement. “Our export growth reflects the hard work and dedication of our exporters, who are making significant strides in the global market,” Osafohene Dr. Afua Asabea Asare I, stated.
Key sectors contributing to this growth include iron and steel, which alone generated over $447 million in revenue. Additionally, Ghana’s diverse export portfolio now encompasses more than 625 products, with non-traditional exports accounting for 24% of the nation’s total export earnings.
Osafohene Dr. Afua Asabea Asare I, highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships with organizations such as the Ghana Export-Import Bank and the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, which assist exporters in navigating international markets. GEPA has also launched initiatives like the export school to equip businesses with the skills and resources necessary for successful exporting.
As Ghana continues to establish itself on the global stage, she expressed confidence in the country’s potential. “We are on a journey to transform Ghana into a leading exporter, and this unprecedented growth is just the beginning,” she concluded.
