Tema East Member of Parliament, Hon. Isaac Odamtten, has stressed the importance of NPP MPs attending parliament to understand the speaker’s seating arrangements.
In an interview with Akua Sonto on kasapa news, Odamtten noted that the majority’s full presence would have allowed the speaker to clarify the Supreme Court’s directive on the vacant seats, thereby informing both NDC and NPP MPs of their seating positions and preventing chaos.
According to Odamtten, MPs could have raised objections and sought correction if the speaker had deviated from the Supreme Court’s directive. He criticized those using legal grounds to recall parliament while resorting to aggressive tactics to express grievances and disrespecting the speaker’s order.
Odamtten, a member of the national democratic congress (NDC), emphasized that the absence of NPP MPs hindered constructive dialogue and resolution. He urged MPs to prioritize parliamentary duties over confrontational approaches.
This comes after the speaker of parliament, Alban Kingsford Bagbin, adjourned parliament indefinitely again due to the failure of the NPP members to attend the session today, Thursday, November 7, at the Accra International Conference Center.
The office of the speaker of parliament released a statement calling for the resumption of parliament. This follows the indefinite adjournment of parliamentary proceedings on October 22, 2024.
The recall session, initiated by the majority caucus, had been expected to address several critical issues.
However, as the majority caucus failed to appear in the chamber, Speaker Bagbin expressed disappointment, noting that the lack of their presence stalled proceedings.
