The Ministry of Education, led by Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has responded to the allegations made by Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, thanking him for bringing the issue to their attention.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa alleged that a total sum of 22,000 bags of expired rice has been repackaged and given out to Senior High Schools across Ghana.

He also said that the National Food Buffer Stock Company joined forces with Lamens Investments Africa Limited to do this operation.

He explained that the rice, which expired in December last year was introduced into the country from India, and apparently, was repackaged at the Buffer Stock’s storage facility at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

It was then skilfully rebranded with locally produced sacks bearing “ECOWAS” and “Made in Ghana rice” labels, appropriately leaving out the expiry date.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Education, led by Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has responded to the allegations, expressing gratitude to Ablakwa for bringing the issue to their attention.
The Ministry has taken action by engaging the National Food Buffer Stock Company and the Ghana Commodity Exchange, responsible for food supply and distribution, to conduct a detailed investigation.

“We take these allegations seriously and have commenced a full investigation,” the Ministry stated. He said.

“Rest assured, we will pursue this matter to the end and provide updates to the public as our investigation progresses.”
