The manifesto spokesperson on energy for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku has said that the current government has dealt with issues of power supply better than the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.
Former President John Mahama has criticized the current administration for not giving the energy sector the attention it deserves.
He also accused the NPP administration of intending to pass on the problem to the next government, which could have dire consequences.
Commenting on the power generation situation on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, Mr. Poku said the government has done everything possible within its power to manage the power sector better than the NDC government despite the current challenges.
“The eight years of NDC 2020, 2009 to 2016, 2017 to 2024, everybody that has lived in Ghana can tell which eight years the light has been on,” he asserted.
The spokesperson continued that the current government, though it does not have a perfect system has fully inherited and solved the power supply sector problem by the previous government.
“Government is continuous so if you are not ready to inherit the problem of the previous government do not come into government”, he stated
Mr. Kwadwo Poku advised that the issue of power should not be politicized.
He also encouraged consumers to pay their bills to have a consistent power supply to their homes.
“So me and you; the consuming public do not pay for the full electricity that is generated and that has been that every day there is an accumulation of debt. How do you deal with it?
“When there were power outages between 2012 and 2016. It wasn’t people sitting on the radio to talk about it. It was Ghanaians experiencing it so if your light is off you don’t need somebody on the radio to come and tell you your light is off before you complain”, he stated.
