A group of customers affected by the collapse of Menzgold Ghana is calling on the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to provide its members with economic relief or face rejection at the polls next week.

The association, which is asking the president and the Finance Minister for GHC200 million Ghana Cedis for the bailout, pointed out that the company’s seized assets could serve as a guarantee for the government’s financial package to them.

“So far, not less than 230 customers have died, as compared to less than 100 deaths when we first made the call for a bailout in 2020. The assurance with our instance request is that all seized assets of MenzGold can serve as a form of guarantee,” the group’s convenor, Mr. Fred Forson, said in a statement.

Its leadership has asked the government to respond to their request before the end of the day.

The customers have been unable to retrieve their deposits from the gold dealership firm since it shut down in 2018.
