In a stunning turn of events, John Peter Amewu, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Hohoe, has lost his seat in the December 2024 parliamentary elections.
Amewu, who had held the seat for several terms, was defeated by a new candidate representing the constituency, marking a significant upset in the political landscape.
Amewu’s defeat comes as a surprise, given his prominence as the sole representative from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Volta region, a stronghold of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
His loss symbolises the NPP’s failure to secure any parliamentary seat in the region, a result that defies expectations.
This result signals a notable shift in the electorate’s preferences in Hohoe and the Volta region, underlining the growing influence of emerging political forces.
