The member of parliament for the Old Tafo Constituency Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has suffered a heavy dip in votes of some 8,519 in the 2024 parliamentary election.
The deputy minister of Local Government contesting on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) polled 34,097 votes representing 68.46% of the total votes cast.
Even though he has secured a second term in office, this is a sharp drop from the NPP’s performance in 2020 when he garnered 42,616 votes constituting some 74.55% of the votes.
The trend was similar in the presidential elections as the vice president and flagbearer of the NPP Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia also encountered an 8,693 drop in votes.
While his predecessor President Nana Akufo Addo swept a decent 42,363 votes representing 73.96%; Dr Bawumia made 33,670 votes reflecting 66.52% of total votes cast.
After the announcement of the results Hon. Vincent Assafuah who was visibly in a subdued disposition walked off to his vehicle unwilling to speak to the media.
