Governance expert Amon Kotei has applauded speaker Alban Bagbin stating that he managed the parliament very well. Emphasizing on the fact that it was a hands parliament.
He stated that the previous parliament was majority against minority parliament but the 8th parliament was a ‘hands’ parliament because there was not a clear majority and minority, which Bagbin’s work very difficult, but he was able to manage it very well.
” When the independent member joined the NPP, they thought they were the majority , but to be majority in parliament it has to be solely your party this made it a ‘ hands parliament making the work difficult for Bagbin but he use diplomacy experience to handle that is why a lot of bills were able to be passed under Nana Addo government”.
He continued that Bagbin was not a partisan speaker, he was an objective speaker. He said this by denying some claims that the speaker of Parliament was is in favor of the political party he was affiliated to.
” It got to a time when he ( Bagbin) was in disagreement when some NDC MPs like Munkata and Haruna Iddrisu. We work with humans so something is not everything people will agreed with you” he stated
He added he is optimistic about Bagbin being the speaker for the 9th parliament because now there is a clear majority and minority and he can manage it well.
