The Executive Secretary of Chamber of Petroleum Consumers ( COPEC) Duncan Amoah, has criticized the exportation of petrol and diesel into the country , stating that it is the cause for shortage of fuel in the country.

He first of all assured that fuel prices will drop from January 16.

” I disagree with those saying the prices of fuel show go high because of it shortage , we are hoping that by the end of today we should have some numbers from the various fuel stations ” he said

According to him the method of exporting fuel into the country is unplanned, which is why petrol especially a shortage commodity in the country.

” If you wake up and the supply is facing issues not because it not on the international market but because of some unplanned circumstances in the exportation method. Because if we export one diesel we should also export one petrol but that wasn’t how it was done , they just brought in a lot of diesel and little petrol”.

“So if you go to the stations, you will get diesel but if you ask for petrol they will tell you there is a shortage. This is all because we didn’t plan the ships that brings the petrol and diesel”, he added.

He assured that ” they are working to correct it “.

He added that fuel prices shouldn’t go up because of this circumstances and he is hoping that by the end of the day, the filling stations would reduce the prices.

He later said that there should be proper planning for a better fuel business.

” The new government has a challenge to do what they called ‘petroleum management planning’ which will enable us to keep a stock and to keep the refinery running. It should do so , so that Ghanaians will benefit from it”.
