The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Effutu, Dr James Kofi Annan, and independent candidate Louisa Buabeng have called for a re-election in the Effutu Constituency or for the Winneba High Court to place an injunction on the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, preventing him from holding himself as the Member of Parliament for the area.

They claim that the recently concluded 2024 parliamentary elections in Effutu were rigged and have formally petitioned the court to annul the results.

Dr Annan, the first petitioner, is seeking the annulment of results from 96 polling stations, arguing that the signatures on the pink sheets were not those of his officially designated polling agents. He claims that these discrepancies suggest foul play in the election process.

Ms Buabeng, the second petitioner, is demanding a complete annulment of the parliamentary election results. She alleges that the Electoral Commission failed to provide her with crucial election-related information and did not permit her to field polling agents at various voting centers.

The petitioners, through their legal counsel, Jennifred Maurice Adjei, have urged the court to intervene, arguing that the credibility of the election was compromised.

Speaking to GHOne News, counsel for the petitioners reiterated that they remain committed to seeking electoral justice for the people of Effutu.

The case now awaits the decision of the Winneba High Court.
