President John Mahama has emphasized that his administration will go after all persons found by the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee to have broken the law.
Speaking at an event at the Jubilee House during which he received the team’s report, the president said the findings “made for sober reading”.
While he hit out at the wanton state capture during the previous administration, he expressed hope that the team’s “collective efforts” could go a long way to help the country “reclaim what is ours and deter future acts of economic sabotage”.
“As we receive this report, let me assure the Ghanaian people that the work does not end here. The recommendations of the report will be carefully studied, and where legal action and investigations are warranted, they will be pursued without fear or favour.
“Every Pesewa recovered will be channelled back into national development, and mechanisms will be strengthened to prevent such losses in the future,” the 6th President of the 4th Republic pledged Monday.
He warned that the committee was an indication that his administration was not going to be lax on matters of corruption-related activities.
“To those who think they can defraud the state and escape justice, let this serve as a strong warning.
“Ghana is no longer a haven for corruption,” President Mahama said. “To those who stand for integrity, accountability, and the rule of law, I assure you that this government remains your steadfast partner in building a nation where honesty and hard work are rewarded.”
ORAL, was a campaign pledge by then President-elect John Dramani Mahama to recover assets and funds misappropriated by officials in the Akufo-Addo administration.
Upon his election last year, he constituted a five-member committee to kickstart the ORAL process.
The members announced in December were Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; a former Auditor-General, Daniel Domelevo; a retired Commissioner of Police, COP (Rtd.) Nathaniel Kofi Boakye; a legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu; and Raymond Archer, who is an investigative journalist.
