A 29-year-old Nigerian man has been handed over to the police after reportedly being beaten by residents for allegedly stealing clothes hangers and toilet rolls in Kasoa, located in Ghana’s Central Region.
According to local reports, the suspect, identified as Joseph was caught attempting to break into a room in the early hours of Monday. Witnesses say neighbors rushed to the scene upon hearing suspicious noises around 5:00 a.m. and found the man searching for valuables.
Despite being given the chance to leave peacefully, he allegedly stole clothes, hangers, and toilet rolls before attempting to flee. However, residents apprehended him and subjected him to a severe beating, stripping him naked in the process.
An eyewitness recounted the incident to local media, while the suspect later claimed in an interview that he was influenced by “the work of the devil” and pleaded for forgiveness.
Authorities have since taken Joseph into custody as investigations continue.
