The Member of Parliament for the good people of Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) Constituency, Hon. Samuel Atta Mills, has described the abandonment of the Ntranoa Community Day Senior High School as an injustice and a waste of public resources.
He expressed deep concern over the failure of the immediate past government to complete several E-Block projects initiated by the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama administration, especially given the pressing infrastructure challenges in many senior high schools amid rising student enrollment under the Free SHS policy.
Leading the chief and residents of Ntranoa on a tour of the abandoned facility, Hon. Atta Mills decried the unnecessary cost implications of the delay. He noted that the initial cost of the project was approximately GHS 9 million, with cement priced at GHS 27 per bag at the time. Today, with cement costing GHS 105 per bag, the project will require revaluation, leading to a significantly higher completion cost.
The purpose of the tour was to assess the current state of the facility and to brief the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, in order to facilitate the resumption and eventual completion of the project.
Speaking during the visit, Nana Kwaku Ntsin V, Chief of Ntranoa, in an interview with Ghone news Yaw Boagyan expressed his frustration over the eight-year delay in completing the school, describing it as a major setback for the community. He stated, “The completion of this project would have been a game-changer for our people.” He, therefore, called on the government to prioritize its completion to provide educational access for children in the area who cannot afford to travel long distances for schooling.
The Assembly Member for the area, Mr. Samuel Kwaku Boaheng, also emphasized the urgent need to complete the school, as it would serve ten communities, four prison facilities, and two major hospitals within the vicinity. He criticized the Nana Addo administration for ignoring repeated calls from the community over the years, stressing that such neglect has only exacerbated educational challenges in the area.
