The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Okyere Panyin Eduamoah has noted the Region’s stance to partner the Department of Agriculture of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) to offer interested poultry farmers the required assistance to excel in the government’s yet-to-be-rolled-out ‘nkoko nkitinkiti’ project.

Hon. Ekow Okyere Panyin disclosed that interested farmers in the project will soon be brought on board to be offered the requisite knowledge needed for the effective rearing of the domestic fowls to be dispensed by the government, particularly in brooding the hatched fouls to be reared.

He made this assertion in a media engagement at the Central Regional Poultry Farmers workshop held in Cape Coast on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

The Central Regional Minister admonished the government’s plan to roll out its ‘Nkoko Nkitinkiti’ program in a well-arranged and properly structured manner.

According to him, the ruling NDC government will make no hasty decision in implementing its ‘Nkoko Nkitinkiti’ project, but see to it that proper measures needed to make the initiative a success is undertaken

The Minister made a passionate appeal on the government to partner various public universities in the country in brooding the birds intended for the project in other to defeat the excuse of poultry farmers reporting the death of their young fowls in the early stages of the project.

He observed that since the Region has made it a point to encourage the youth to acquire skill-oriented jobs in a more attractive manner, has made an arrangement for the young ones to get the opportunity to learn from the universities, having had UCC oblige to such offer.

Dr. Eric Asamoah Darko, Chairman for the Central Regional Poultry Farmers Association, detailed the need for poultry farming to be introduced at basic level in the Ghanaian education setup in other to motivate the younger ones to venture into poultry at tender age.

He notified that initial steps undertaken by the Association to have poultry farming introduced in schools proved ineffective and hence called on all and sundry to have their plea adopted going forward.

The Central Regional Poultry Farmers Association Chairman further expressed delight in the government’s ‘Nkoko Nkitinkiti’ program, considering the benefit it stands to offer the Ghanaian poultry industry.
