The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Professor Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, has appealed to members of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) to reconsider their ongoing strike.
The industrial action, which follows unresolved issues regarding conditions of service, has disrupted healthcare delivery across the country.
Addressing the media on Monday, June 9, Professor Akoriyea acknowledged the concerns of the nurses but urged them to prioritise the well-being of patients and return to the negotiation table.
He also emphasised that some healthcare needs are time-sensitive and cannot be postponed, warning that the continued absence of nurses could put lives at risk.
“Let me take this opportunity to call on our sisters and brother nurses to come back to work. Just like I told one pregnant nurse yesterday, if you come to the hospital now to give birth because your time is due, what are you going to say? Will you say, ‘I won’t deliver today because we are on strike?’ Let’s all go back to the negotiation table. I humbly add my voice to the Honourable Minister that, please, come back to work and let’s continue the negotiation,” he appealed.
