*Yagbonwura Appeals to State Housing Company to Prioritize Savannah Region*
The Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, has called on the State Housing Company (SHCL) to consider the Savannah Region in its future development plans.
This appeal was made during a courtesy call on the King by the Managing Director of the State Housing Company, Mr. John S. Bawah.
The Yagbonwura expressed deep concern over the absence of any State Housing projects in the Savannah Region, lamenting the longstanding neglect of the area in the national housing agenda.
According to the King, the lack of affordable and quality housing continues to pose a significant challenge to residents of the region, especially as the area undergoes gradual urbanization.
He therefore urged Mr. Bawah and the leadership of the State Housing Company to prioritize the Savannah Region in their upcoming projects, noting that equitable distribution of national development is essential to the unity and progress of the country.
“The Savannah Region has not benefited from any State Housing project, and it is my hope that your administration will consider correcting this imbalance. We are in need of decent, affordable housing,” the Yagbonwura said.
The King also used the occasion to assure Mr. Bawah and his team of his unflinching support should the company decide to invest in the region.
He pledged the full cooperation of traditional leaders in the area, particularly in the allocation of land and in facilitating community engagement.
“I want to assure you that we are ready to offer you all the support you may need—be it land, security, or community backing—if you choose to bring any development here to address our housing challenges,” he said.
In response, Mr. Bawah expressed appreciation to the Yagbonwura for the warm reception and acknowledged the concerns raised.
He assured the King that the State Housing Company is committed to ensuring balanced development across all regions, and that the Savannah Region will be given due consideration in the company’s future projects.
The visit is part of Mr. Bawah’s regional engagement tour aimed at fostering collaboration with key stakeholders and deepening the company’s presence across the country.
