The New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North,Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie has launched a scathing attack on her opponent, Ewurabena Aubynn of the NDC, questioning her legitimacy and connection to the constituency.
In an interview with Akua Sonto on Kasapa 102.5fm’s morning show, Nana Akua did not mince words, saying:“If Ewurabena Aubynn wants to be an MP, she should go to her hometown.”
In the wake of the Electoral Commission’s declaration of a rerun in the hotly contested Ablekuma North parliamentary elections, tensions continue to rise between the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Her comments come amid ongoing disputes over the December 2024 parliamentary results, which both parties claim to have won. The EC has announced a rerun for July 11, 2025, in an attempt to resolve the stalemate.
Nana Akua also cast doubt on the NDC candidate’s confidence in her supposed victory.
“Why call for a rerun if you truly believe you won the Ablekuma North election?” she asked, suggesting that the NDC’s push for another vote is an admission of defeat.
The comments have sparked further debate over identity, representation, and fairness in Ghana’s electoral politics as the two rivals brace for a rematch in one of the capital’s most closely watched constituencies.
