Lots of Ghanaians have commended the Greater Accra Regional Police Command for their yeoman’s job in arresting the hit and run driver who knocked down and killed an old woman and her two grand children at Teshie over the weekend.

The driver of the 207 passenger vehicle, Patrick Laryea 35, who crashed the deceased to death around the Goil filing station on the Teshie- Accra road Saturday night failed to stop and attend to the victims.

The police who were bent on arresting the driver, urged the public especially those who were on that vehicle to volunteer information leading to the driver’s arrest.

Many would have thought that the passengers who were witnesses to the accident would have passed on the information to the Police, but surprisingly and sadly that was not done.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, A.S.P Afia Tenge on Tuesday told Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM that the driver was arrested after a taxi driver alerted them (police) that he’d seen a car parked somewhere at La Wireless, which fits the description given about the said car.

However the shocking but real story behind the arrest was told Kasapa FM by Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch Newspaper, Ben Ephson.

According to him, the hit and run driver after the incident parked his car at a filling station and absconded, adding that it took someone very observant to blow the cover of the run-away driver.

“Someone who had heard of the vehicle’s description, saw this car, went near it and realized that the car had been involved in an accident. He further scrutinized the car and to his utter shock, he found a grey hair (probably that of the old lay) stuck on the dented part of the car. He then reported his finding to the police which led to the driver’s arrest.”

A.S.P Tenge however stated that the driver had been interrogated and would soon be arraigned before court.
