President John Dramani Mahama will today commission the 225 MW Karpower barge, Karadeniz Powership Aysegul Sultan, to pave way for actual electricity production.

The powership,  arrived on the shores of Ghana on Saturday, November 28.

The Karpowership deal is part of the medium term measures contracted by government to mitigate the effects of the power crisis.

At least the 225 megawatt Karpowership (Aysegul Sultan) will consume an estimated 30,000 to 35,000 tonnes of Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) per month, which translates into close to US$9million per October HFO (Rotterdam) price of US$254 per tonne.

However, a second Powership with the same megawatts capacity is expected to be delivered soon.
