President John Dramani Mahama has accepted the resignation of Dr. Kwabena Donkor as Minister for Power.

The Minister resigned on New Year’s eve after promising Ghanaians that he will relinquish his post if he fails to end the power crisis by close of 2015.

The Pru East MP’s Ministry released a statement on Wednesday December 30 announcing an official end to the load shedding programme. However, the Load Shedding Committee issued a counter statement the following day to say the programme was still on pending the resolution of some residual concerns.

“The President thanked him for his services as the pioneer Minister for the Ministry of Power which was carved out of the then Ministry of Energy and Petroleum,” an official communication from the seat of government – The Flagstaff House – said.

He is likely to be replaced by John Jinapor – the Deputy Minister of Power,  Nii Osah Mills, who is the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, or Kwame Awuah Darko, who heads the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST).
