A private legal practitioner, Ace Ankomah has said the two governments (US&Ghana) involved in the agreement of resettling in Ghana,  the two cleared terrorists suspects of Yemeni origin from popular prison bay, Guantanamo have exposed themselves in the deal by lying.

Deputy Communications Minister, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, in an interview with sister station Starr FM, assured Ghanaians that the US government will bear the cost of the upkeep of the two former Guantanamo detainees.

However, speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues hosted by Kwesi Pratt, the Public Affairs Counselor at the US Embassy in Ghana, Daniel Fennell, revealed that the upkeep of the former Guantanamo Bay detainees being hosted in Ghana is a shared cost between both governments.

“It’s a shared expense…we are contributing some for the monitoring and upkeep of the individuals and the government of Ghana. We are contributing some money towards that and the government of Ghana is making all the arrangements and taking care of them,” he stated.

Ace Ankomah who is bemused by the shocking revelation took to his facebook page and posted “Someone is lying. Is it the Ghana government or the US government? What’s your vote?”

But in a sharp U-turn, the Head of Public Affairs, Daniel Fennell speaking on TV 3 Friday Morning ostensibly following the backlash his revelation generated stated that at the time he granted an interview to Kwasi Pratt he did not have the entire brief on the issue.

He said: “Just to clarify on the cost issue, the United States is bearing the cost, is contributing the costs that are additional, that are necessary to upkeep the detainees that were brought from Guantanamo Bay, and the Government of Ghana providing infrastructure. If I caused any confusion, with my prior statement, I apologise”
