The Head Porters Association of Ghana have declared their preparedness to support the New Patriotic Party (NPP) win power in whatever way possible to enable Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo to become President of the land.

According to the head porters, they have tried and tested all the leaders of the various political parties, especially, the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition NPP in recent times and the only person who inspires them a lot is the flagbearer of the elephant family.

President of the Head Porters Association of Ghana, Adiza Zongo Pioneer, who interacted with Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM Monday said it was based on the inspiration they’ve received from Nana Addo that they decided to contribute their widow’s mite to support the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition at their fund raising event last Saturday.

She told Banson that she is much aware of the fact that no government will ever come and put money into their pockets, arguing that all that they needed are good policies and programs that will provide some reliefs to them, especially in the area of healthcare and accommodation.

“Kayayes are suffering too much and we are not getting any help from the government. Now, Nana Addo has promised to come to our aid by helping to provide shelter for us when elected as President and people are saying he can’t do it”.

“What is even hurting us more is the fact that NHIS is collapsing. They also told us that they have provided jobs for us with the establishment of SADA and so we should go home and work and that all the guinea fowls have returned home”.

“We boarded a car home only to be told that there is no work for us. It appears the President has been deceiving us. When it comes to elections, he comes around and tells us that this man is from this tribe and that we shouldn’t vote for him and all that”.

“If you look at the help that we are getting from the Ashanti Region, we can’t talk about it. So, we decided to also raise some funds to support the NPP because they have demonstrated that our problems are their problems,” she noted.

She added “So we are promising the NPP that in the last elections, they got 14 seats from the Northern Region – this election we are promising them 25 seats. They have used us a lot without supporting us to get jobs to do. We are not saying that when Nana Addo comes he should give us money, no. All that we will be demanding from him is to revive our NHIS for us. The amount that we’ve been paying for tickets when we go to the market should also be reviewed and also provide shelter for us. That is our problem and that is what we want Nana Addo to do for us when elected as President so that all of us will benefit”.

The head porters (Kayayes) Kasapafmonline.com learnt, contributed GH¢5,000 towards the NPP’s campaign for the 2016 general elections.
