The Police service today prevented teachers in the Nsawam/Adoagyiri Municipality  from pouring onto the streets to stage a demonstration as directed by the Trade Union Congress in protest of the fuel levies and utility hikes.

The teachers therefore strapped red calico around their hands and marched to the Municipal Office of Ghana Education Service, where they gathered in solidarity with the day’s nationwide demonstration declared by the TUC.

Mr Daniel Agyei, Municipal Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers explained that , the letter from the teachers informing the police about the impending demonstration failed to meet the five day notification period meant for such activities.

However, more than 200 schools in the Nsawam/Adoagyiri municipality were closed due to the demonstration by public servants.
