The Tema Municipality recorded an increase of about 13 percent in defilement cases in 2015 as compared to 2014.

In 2014, the region had about 99 cases of defilement but recorded additional 13 cases in 2015.

Kasapa 102.3 FM News’ correspondent, Maxwell Ofori, who covered a press conference organized by the Tema Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Paul Manly Awini, Tuesday, reports that the rise in the defilement cases in 2015 depicts a positive move towards fighting issues of defilement in the region.

“If you look at it closely we can say that the police did their work well. The DOVVSU (Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit) educated the public more”, the Police Commander was quoted as saying.

ACP Awini added, “previously some families wouldn’t report cases of defilement to the police but because of the sensitization they now come to report”.
