Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir has left South Africa despite an ongoing high court case which is seeking for his arrest.

State media SABC is reporting that Bashir left via the Waterkloof air force base, located on the outskirts of Pretoria.

The report confirms an earlier one by Sudan Information Minister Ahmed Bilal Osman who said the president would return to Sudan within hours.

“He is coming back to our country in one or two hours,” he said, adding that it did not matter if the court ordered Bashir’s arrest, as it had no ability to enforce such an order.”

Bashir was in Johannesburg for an African Union (AU) summit.

A news conference will be held in Sudan’s capital upon his arrival, officials say.
