The Dream Believe Achieve Network (DBA) powered by the Vodafone Ghana Foundation held another successful mentoring programme to celebrate the Valentine season with children in Accra.

Following the success of last year’s event, also held at the Perez Chapel International, several children, mostly Sunday School kids from the church participated in the second edition.

Held on Saturday 13 February, organisers of the programme said the period chosen to host the programme was strategic, explaining that DBA uses the opportunity of the love season to meaningfully engage children so that they are not left to wander about and find themselves at the wrong places.

The full day mentoring programme called Braveheart which is a signature project of the Dream Believe Achieve Network brought together several mentors who are all young professionals of diverse experiences with the passion to drive change in their community.

Speaking to the media, Lead Coordinator of DBA Ms Brooke Nuwati said “There is nothing more fulfilling than challenging and shaping the thinking of young people. We believe it is important to first influence one’s thinking before driving change in behaviour.

This is what DBA is all about. All the professionals who have chosen to use their valentine weekend to do this find it a rewarding experience. We are grateful that the Vodafone Ghana Foundation and other organisations identify with the DBA vision”

She was optimistic that the skills acquired by the pupils will yield the necessary fruits as they interact with their peers and community.

For her part, Head of Vodafone Ghana Foundation, Nana Yaa Ofori-Koree, said “the objective of the Dream-Believe-Achieve project was in line with Vodafone’s vision that seeks to develop the full potential of students to positively impact the society.”

She stressed the importance of this initiative and recounted how evident the success of the programme had been.

“Vodafone Foundation in partnership with the Dream-Believe-Achieve will replicate this initiative in other parts of the country in order to give every child a better start to life,” Nana Yaa indicated.

The objective of DBA is to groom, mentor and inspire young people through the sharing of experiences, nurturing leadership skills and building confidence. It is an exciting opportunity for the youth to champion the change they want to see bygiving back to their community while contributing to building a better future for Ghana.

The Braveheart event hosted over 350 children, mostly teenagers who were taken through presentation topics such as Communicating with confidence, Responsible citizenship, Courtesy for boys and girls, Sex education, Underage drinking, Career Counselling, Health & fitness as well as Personal grooming and hygiene. The day also saw the kids engaged through fun activities including face painting, singing and dancing competition, musical chairs, bouncing castles, trampolines, amongst others.

Coca-Cola Ghana Limited, Accra Brewery Limited, Voltic Ghana Limited and Fan Milk Ghana Limited; loyal supporters of DBA’s activities made sure all participants were fully refreshed through the day with drinks, water and ice cream.
