Dismissed Circuit Court Judge, Justice Isaac B. Akwantey is alleging of massive corruption at the Chief Justice’s office, alluding that if the CJ wants to rid the Judiciary of graft she should first start from her office.

According to him, there were equally pockets of big corruption issues ongoing at the CJ’s secretariat  that were missed by the lenses of ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas while uncovering rot in the judiciary .

He said such level of corruption could not match the case brought against them that saw their exit from the bench, for which reason similar investigations ought to be conducted in her circles to tackle the issues head on .

On Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM, Justice I. B Akwantey recounted what he described as the worst form of rot that was festering in the Chief Justices office which goes unnoticed or better still have been swept under the carpet.

“A Kumasi based Lawyer who rose from nowhere to become a Court of Appeal Judge- Dennis Agyei, is a culprit in bribery and corruption scandal. This is somebody who is hiding in the Chief Justice secretariat taking bribe in respect of promotion at the bench and no one seems to be talking about it.

“My own friend Benjamin Osei has worked for 18 years as a Magistrate and a Circuit court Judge without any promotion, but surprisingly Juniors at the bench and bar were getting promoted on a silver platter. So he decided to inquire and probe why this could be happening. He then approached Dennis Osei and he showed him a tall list of those to be promoted which he was not included. And wondering what could possibly be done on that issue, he decided to tempt Benjamin Osei with GHS 2000 and to his dismay, Osei collected the money and even went ahead suggesting of one other influential person acclaimed as the Chief of Staff at the secretariat who also needed to be sorted. He went out of his way giving the other person also the same amount to push his interest.”

He claimed it was unfortunate for him to be removed in such manner despite all the sacrifices at Wa.

“I know for sure that between 60%-70% of Judges sitting in Accra cannot survive the harsh conditions in the hinterlands where we’ve served. They will resign with all alacrity when they are posted there.”

Justice I.B Akwantey indicated he will fight his removal at the court since there were no basis, any truth, or proper investigations that led to his dismissal.
