The Bawku Divisional Police Command has arrested five people suspected to be involved in some gun battle that injured four between two groups at Posuum, in the Bawku enclave.

The casualties from the clashes who sustained gunshot wounds to their shoulders, backs and thighs, are  said to be receiving medical attention at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital.

Kasapa FM’s Upper East Regional correspondent Edward Adeti reports two women are also being held and questioned for firing guns during the clashes.

The Bawku Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Kaletsi Tefutor, told Adeti dispute over a planned renovation of a private mosque by one Mallam Abubakar triggered the clash.

“It’s a private mosque that is being renovated by Mallam Abubakar, one of the Islamic figures in the area. But parts of the area were against it, saying that the land belongs to them. We were supposed to meet this week only to hear that they had gone to the Mallam’s house to attack him.

“They shot four people who are now on admission. We went there to restore law and order and arrested five people. The case is under investigations,”

Patrols have intensified security at Posuum to forestall any reprisal attacks.
