Rasta haired, Afoko during the early days of his trial

The embattled murder suspect, Gregory Afoko has tabled down 5 witnesses to be presented to court to prove his innocence.

The state prosecutors have presented 17 material evidences to the Accra Magistrate court during the committal trial of Gregory Afoko.

The court presided over by Worlanyo Kotoku has referred the case to a high court for full trial to commence on the Gregory Afoko held over the murder of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Upper East Regional chairman, Adams Mahama.

According to Kasapa Fm’s court correspondent, Daakyehene Ofosu Agyeman, the five witnesses to support Gregory Afoko are John Afoko, David Afoko, Madam Linda Agana, Musah Issah and Mr Adjeni.

Some of the material evidences presented to the court by the Attorney General’s Department included postmortem results of Adam Mahama, Gallon containing the acid, pair of shoes and clothes belonging to the deceased, track suit belonging to the suspect on arrest, photographs taken at crime scene among others.

On May 20, 2015, Adam Mahama, a contractor, was showered with acid when he was returning home from work about 11 p.m. He died a day later at the hospital but was said to have mentioned Afoko and one Alangdi as his assailants.

In the course of investigations the Police said they retrieved a blue-black track suit with burns in it from Afoko’s room, and a report from the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), following a forensic examination, showed that the burns were acid burns. He was subsequently arrested and has been standing trial since.
