Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Mahama Ayariga has warned that unless drastic measures were collectively taken to reverse the trend, the country risked losing its ecological zone, especially in the Northern part.
He’s advocated for more tree planting to boost the vegetation cover.
Addressing a gathering at this year’s World Day to Combat Desertification at Tolon, Ayariga said that part of the country was depleting very fast.
“Key success in combating desertification is behavioural change by all to protect our trees, plant more trees and engage in appropriate farming practice.
“Farmers must also engage in agro-forestry and produce more compost from their waste.”
