The Ministry of Education has urged caution on wholesale text books which have dominated the markets, advising parents to shun books which have no GES authorization.

Speaking in an interview with Kasapa 102.3 FM Tuesday, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Education Ministry, Francis Gbadago told parents to always confirmed with the GES whenever they patronize any book for use by their children.

“It is possible to contact GES to find out whether that book they’re buying is approved by GES, before they can go ahead.”

His comment comes on the heels of the infamous Prof. Quarm’s text book which the GES has denied as an approved textbook for schools under the Ghana Education Service.

A statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry denied sanctioning such book authored by one Prof. Albert Joseph Quarm  for use in Ghanaian schools.

“Investigations have so far revealed that the infamous book in question appears to be an uncommissioned solo effort by the said author. For the avoidance of doubt, the said book has not been taken through the approval processes of the Curriculum Research and Development Division of the Ghana Education Service, the statement said.

The author of the much criticised book in his ‘Natural Science for Primary Schools – Pupil’s Book 1,’ has stated that the human head is used for carrying loads.

In a reaction to the controversies surrounding the book on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM, Gbadago said parents are susceptible to getting for their kids unwholesome educational materials which have flooded the markets, hence urged them to limit getting text books which have only been approved by the GES.

He said GES will shortly improve the features of the approved text books in the system with an identification seal to address these problems.
