Former Director General of the Ghana Education Service(GES), Michael Nsowah has lauded WAEC’s resolve not to cancel the  four papers that were leaked in the ongoing West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).

For him, such a decision is the best way to go as it will save the country from spending huge monies to print new set of questions to replace the leaked ones.

Commenting on the leakage on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM Thursday, the former Director of the GES intimated that considering the circumstances of the said leakage, the express cancellation of the papers across-board won’t be an ideal decision to cure the problem at hand.

On the contrary, he said what was required in this instance was  for the examining body to zoom in on the isolated areas where the incident happened and deal with them without having to take actions that may affect innocent students sitting for the exams this year.

“If WAEC decides to cancel the papers, there are so many areas that did not benefit in the leakage yet the decision will automatically affect them-besides it’s important to think of the financial implication in securing new papers for students to write again.”

At least three papers have been leaked in the ongoing WASSCE raising concerns about the conduct of the examinations, but WAEC in reaction to the scandal has stated it will not cancel any of the papers that have been leaked in the ongoing West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE)

This comes on the back of WAEC’s claims of advancing a software into the system that will check cheating in exams this year.

Critics in the educational sector have expressed misgivings whether WAEC will be able to safeguard the integrity of the exams written in the country considering the rampant leakages which occur on yearly basis.

A section of Ghanaians have also suggested for the Head of WAEC, Very Rev. Mmai Ollenu to exit office to save the image of the examining body-WAEC.
