Over 1,400 ex-military officers who served in the military between 1977- 1983 have filed a suit against the Ghana Armed Forces over what they claim to be their unlawful release from the service in the year 2010.
In a writ filed at the Human Rights Court registry, the ex-officers prayed the court to declare that their removal from the Ghana Armed Forces without recourse to the Armed Forces regulation and due process is unlawful and also demanding a sum of GHC20,000.00 each as compensation.
Joined in the suit are the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) and the Attorney General.
This follows a similar court suit instituted against the GAF in January, where some two hundred and twenty-five retired military officers sued the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) over what they describe as under-payment of their gratuities, contrary to what the government approved.
The ex-servicemen who were recruited between 1988 and 1989 had served the country well over 25 years before they commenced their terminal leave in December 2014.
