Accra Hearts of Oak has today announced a one-year sponsorship agreement with Ghanaian oil giants, Ghana Oil Company Limited, GOIL.

Representatives from Hearts and GOIL signed the deal at the premises of the Oil company in Cantonments this morning in a colorful ceremony.

GOIL, one of the leading indigenous companies in the country, is the official fuel/energy sponsor of Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club Limited.

Strategy Committee member of Accra Hearts of Oak Vincent Odotei-Sowah said: ‘’On behalf of Accra Hearts Oak, let me say a very big thank you to GOIL for coming up with this partnership.

“We see this sponsorship as a partnership because we see that the objectives of Accra Hearts of Oak is in congruent with that of GOIL because we want to build at Accra Hearts of Oak a dominant local brand, and continentally a brand that will dominate as well.

“So GOIL being an indigenous company with a lot of ambition; Accra Hearts of Oak, a local domestic club, with a lot of ambition to dominate; we can see that the good energy between the two organizations will form a good synergy so we see this as a good partnership. A partnership that we are very confident will give good value to GOIL.”

The Ghanaian energy giants have been concerned about the dwindling fortunes of football clubs and the local league and they believe throwing a lifeline in terms of sponsorship will boost the fortunes of Hearts of Oak and arch-rivals, Asante Kotoko, who also signed a similar deal.

Managing Director of Goil, Mr Patrick A.K Akorli said at the ceremony: “We have rebranded and we are out there making strides. We have been watching the local scene and we realized that this is the time to start making our contribution.

“We do not have to reach up there to start looking behind to help people. We have realized that local football has been on the downward spiral for some time; and everybody has been lamenting and at weekends, everybody is glued to his TV watching European football.

“But we know sports play a very important role in the life of every nation especially in these days of high youth employment. So those who are into sports are really helping because if a footballer is not into sports, who knows what he could be – maybe a vagabond on the street or something else.

“So we think there is the need to start helping the local league and by so doing helping solve some of the current problems in the society.

“So we decided that this year we are going to start something by helping the traditional clubs – and we are going to start with the two major traditional clubs this country know: Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak.”

Mr. Patrick A.K Akorli (Managing Director), J.B Tagoe (Technical and Special Products Marketing Manager), Alex Adzew (Fuels Marketing Manager), Benjamin Ocansey (Retail Sales Manager), Mrs. Rosemond Awortwi-Frempong (Corporate Affairs Manager), Barima Azumah Nelson (Brand Ambassador), Robert Kyere (PR Manager), and Nana Ama (Legal Advisor) represented Ghana Oil Company Limited.

Strategy Committee members, Vincent Odotei-Sowah, Frank Nelson, Thomas Esso, Alhaji Akanbi Braimah, and Hearts Ladies President Madam Vicentia Deku, on the other hand, represented the club in signing the deal.

Some of the salient points of the partnership agreement is that GOIL is offering a package of 40 thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 40,000) to Hearts per month for a period of one year.
The club will also receive monthly fuel allocation and enjoy GOIL’s advantage card.

Hearts will also display the GOIL logo at the back of the club’s official jerseys and give the company the necessary mileage via the club’s communication channels.

Accra Hearts of Oak is delighted to have the energy giants on board.
