Embattled Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi Boasiako a.k.a Chairman Wontumi, has said it was totally unnecessary for the Regional Police Command to declare him wanted, after an alleged case of assault was made against him.

The belligerent Regional Chairman on May 1 showed his thuggery best when he slapped his fellow party member, Collins Owusu Amankwaa who’s the Member of Parliament for Manhyia North at a registration centre as he monitored the ongoing Limited Voters Registration exercise.

Following the disgraceful act, the police declared Chairman Wontumi wanted after which he turned himself in on Tuesday but was detained.

He was later arraigned before court on Wednesday May 4 on charges of an assault of a public officer. The Magistrate Court at Asokwa later granted him bail to the sum of GHC 20,000 and is scheduled to re-appear in court on June 1.

But speaking to sit-in-host Akwasi Nsiah on Si Me So on Kasapa FM, Chairman Wontumi stated that as brave as he is, he’ll never run away from the police any day, adding that while the police declared him wanted he was busily having a wonderful time celebrating his 40th birthday with his loved ones.

“No police officer contacted me or issued any warrant to me. Per our laws a warrant when issued elapses after 21 days, but all I heard in the media was that I had been declared wanted. I go on my usual rounds every day so I wonder why the police will do that”.
