Government has announced that it is still negotiating with Bankswitch for the settlement of the GHC197.4million judgment debt awarded the international IT firm after abrogating its contract.

“The government team made up of officials from the Attorney-General’s Department, Ministry of Finance and the Ghana Revenue Authority has been holding meetings to negotiate the settlement,” a statement from the Finance Ministry signed by its Deputy Minister, Cassel Ato Forson said Monday.

The announcement comes in the wake of media reports suggesting that the Government has reached a deal with Bankswitch  after the Permanent Court of Arbitration’s ruling against the former.

But the Finance Ministry contends that there is no iota of truth in the reports.

“The ministry wishes to emphatically state that this information is not true, ” the statement in part read.
According to the statement, the government is still in touch with Bankswitch and has come up with a proposal on how to resolve the matter. The proposal, the deputy minister noted, are yet to be approved by Cabinet.

He said the government will take a decision which will be beneficial to the country while respecting the rule of law.
