Men do not participate in gender issues because they don’t understand how it relates to them.
This is according to American gender and masculinity expert Professor Michael Kimmel.
He was speaking during a discussion on masculinity and gender at Wits University’s Braamfontein campus on Monday.
“We don’t think gender has anything to do with us‚” Kimmel said.
According Kimmel‚ men do not engage with gender issues because they fear that feminists and gender activists will impose a new identity on them.
“If men thought like fathers‚ we would live in a different world than being a bro or a guy.”
Kimmel said women cannot be empowered without engaging men.
