Dr Kwabena Duffuor, the Minister of Finance in the Atta-Mills administration, has been invited by the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) and the Oxford Centre for the Analysis of Resource Rich Economies (OxCarre) to speak at its 2015 conference on the theme: Falling Prices, Rising Risks on June 25 and 26, 2015 at the University of Oxford’s St Catherine’s College.
A letter of invitation signed by the President of NRGI, Daniel Kaufmann, said this year’s conference would focus on the implications of falling commodity prices. It will bring together policy makers, practitioners, academics and other leading experts, including many from the developing countries, to discuss the salient policy and governance challenges and the latest analysis on these issues.
It said the conference would provide a forum for a highly interactive debate, showcasing new thinking, policy experience and emerging practice.
The invite also noted that the changing context might also raise important issues for the recommendations encapsulated in the Natural Resource Charter (2nd edition), helping to address whether some of the policy options should be revisited to account for the new realities.
“We will cover the implications of the end of the commodities super-cycle from multiple perspectives. These will include impacts of different policy areas (pressure on fiscal regimes, macroeconomic and subnational policy responses and implications for investment,” it said.
It also noted that the session would cover opportunities for improving resource governance (supporting policy and institutional reforms, improving accountability, using data and role of industry) and the differentiated effects of regions across the globe.
Other speakers include a former Minister of Finance in the Kufuor administration who is also a Member of Parliament and ranking member, Parliament’s Finance Committee, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei.
