Police say it will apply the full force of the law to deal with the Queenmother Nana Afia Ababio  who attempted installing a chief at Kato, a town near Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region against the advice of the Municipal Council.

One person was killed and three others injured in the renewed Chieftaincy clashes at Kato.

But, the Brong Ahafo Regional Police explained the actions of the queenmother triggered the renewed clashes in the area, and hence will be charged for the negligence that resulted in the skirmishes which erupted in Kato.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Christopher Tawiah who spoke to Kasapa FM said the Police is unable to make any arrest for now in the wake of the disturbances, even though they have record of the culprits, saying it is employing tact to make sure peace returns to the area.

Such arrests could be made later, and persons also known to have committed any wrong doing in the disturbances and the killing of the deceased will all be brought to book, he noted, adding that what matters is to preserve the calm in the area.

“We don’t want to escalate the violence in the area, as a result of that we are holding on with any arrest – It is not necessary for now; when there is a mob action you need to be very professional about it. Now we have all hands on deck in a bid to ensure there will be calm between the two sides. The Regional Security Council, Regional House of Chiefs and others are all on board to work towards bringing peace in the area,” ASP Tawiah told Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa.

Police have intensified patrol to maintain law and order  in the community and the surrounding villages.

The clashes ensued after one faction defied the advice of the Regional Security Council to install a sub chief in the area, Police say.
