Accra Mayor Dr. Oko Vanderpuije has disclosed that 108 victims of the flood and fire disaster in Accra last year have been compensated.

According to him, city authorities are still going through the necessary processes to compensate the remaining victims

Dr Oko Vanderpuije made the announcement at a memorial service held at the Rev. Ernest Bruce Memorial Methodist Church at Adabraka in Accra on Friday in honour of the over 154 persons who perished in horrific incident.

“108 families have been taken care of. We are a people who care and recognizing and noticing that members of our families were affected, we put into action a plan to identify our dead brothers and sisters.”

President John Mahama was at the service but did not speak.

The event was attended by a cross section of Ghanaians and also some diplomats serving in Ghana.

Hours of heavy rains on June 3, 2015 coupled with an explosion at the GOIL Fuel Station at the Nkrumah Circle in Accra claimed over 150 lives and injured about 154 persons.
