It has emerged that police personnel who undertake escort duties protecting market women in the Brong Ahafo region wear no bullet proof vests to enhance their safety.

The absence of the protective vests put the police officers in a life threatening situation as they sometimes come under armed robbery attacks.

The Public Relations Officer of the Brong Ahafo Regional Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Christopher Tawiah made the disclosure on Kasapa FM Wednesday morning.

He was commenting on the shooting to death of Constable Frank Klu by armed robbers at Kwame Danso in the Sene district of the Brong Ahafo region at dawn on Tuesday.

The robbers accosted the bus on which they were travelling at about 5 a.m Tuesday, June 7. The robbers fled with the police officer’s AK 47 rifle.

ASP Christopher Tawiah stated that the police have launched a man hunt for the robbers vowing that the police will do everything possible to bring the criminals to book.

Meanwhile the Yeji District Police Command on Wednesday afternoon combed the area following which seven suspects were arrested.

They have been sent to the Regional Headquarters in Sunyani for interrogation.
