A former player of Accra Hearts of Oak Uriah Asante has died.

A family member Monday confirmed the news, saying he died of a cardiac arrest. Asante could’t survive the scare after he was rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

A cousin, Adolf Gyimah told Kumasi-based Ashh FM that Asante had been complaining of pains when swallowing food lately.

Asante was a Sociology and History graduate from the University of Ghana.

He left Hearts of Oak as a free agent in 2012 and moved abroad to Tunisian Champions Etoile Du Sahel.

He also played in Bahrain for Al Riffa SC together with compatriot Moussa Narry last season.

Asante also had stints at Romanian club Astra Giurgiu and EGS Gafsa in Tunisia, and abrogated his contract with the latter in July 2015.
