The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Bryan Acheampong is the new MP-elect for Abetifi constituency.

He polled 14,015 out of the 15,329 valid votes cast, representing 89.97% to win Saturday’s contest.

Three other candidates, Vida Konadu Ennim of the Independent Peoples Party (IPP ), Prof. Edmund Nkansah of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) and Kenneth Nikoi Kotei of the United Front Party (UFP) who also contested the race polled 469 (3.01%), 439 (2.82%) and 406 (2.61%) respectively.

The constituency was previously represented by another NPP member, Peter Wiafe Peprah whose sudden demise necessitated the by-election.

The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in a show of solidarity to Wiafe Peprah did not contest the polls.

Mr. Acheampong is expected to be sworn into office by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho in the coming days.
