The Chairman of the Ghana Prisons Council, Rev. Dr Stephen Wengam, has said there is the need for President John Mahama to see the real challenges facing Ghana’s prisons.

He told Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM even though they’ve made detailed reports available to the President and government officials to confirm the issues they face, experiencing it at first hand was important to the general theme of pushing for better conditions at the facilities.

“You know what it happens when you’re having a big guest in your house; you want to set your house in order so your visitor won’t have wrong impression about you.

“They started with some painting works and all of that to welcome the President, but I told them this won’t help matters; the President should be able to see what we’re going through here.”

President John Dramani Mahama is joined on tour by the Chief Justice, Georgina Theodora Wood and some state officials.

It comes on the back of an amnesty he granted some 900 prisoners from across the country’s prison installations.
