Sports Journalist, and President of Beach Soccer Ghana, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has written to football governing body FIFA to come to its aid as it attempts to rebuild its damaged league grounds.

The La Beach grounds of the body, used for its national league was damaged in the June 3 floods, a situation that has forced organizers to put the start of its 2015 league on hold.

In a letter addressed to Andrew de Gruchy, Head of Marketing & Sponsorship Sale, Beach Soccer World Wide and copied to Walter Gag, Director (Special advisor to the FIFA President), Federation of International Football Associations, Ankrah called on the governing body for urgent help.

“The capital of Ghana, Accra, has been hit by one of the worst torrential rains in recent times. This has led to severe flooding in most parts of city. The rain storm on the 3rd of June 2015 led to three successive tidal waves which battered the venue that hosts the Ghana Beach Soccer league.

“Unfortunately, all the structures put up by the Beach Soccer Association over the past four years have been destroyed by the floods and tidal waves. The commencement of the 2015 Beach Soccer National league scheduled for the 4th of July is not only in danger but indeed beach soccer in Ghana has been brought to a total stand still.

By this notification, I wish to humbly appeal to FIFA through Beach Soccer World Wide to urgently come to the aid of Ghana Beach Soccer,” the letter reads.

Beach Soccer Ghana sources say Gag has privately acknowledged receipt of the letter, but yet to do so officially.

Beach Soccer continues to grow in popularity. However a combination of lack of corporate interest, save for one from CAL BANK, has meant it has had to ride on partly passion to get it going.

Ghana is currently ranked 19th in the world. The Black Sharks as the national team is called, are set to take part in  August 14-16 Morocco Beach Soccer World Tour (El Jadida).
