The flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, has signed the petition urging President John Mahama to disregard the call for freeing of the Montie Three.

The counter petition was mooted by opposition party- PPP against the movement “free Montie three” initiated by the Research and Advocacy Platform (RAP), and had Ministers, and appointees of the ruling government, joining the action to seek pardon for the three who are serving a four month jail term.

The three are incarcerated for contempt after they were found guilty by the Supreme court for scandalising the apex court and also bringing its name into disrepute when they threatened to kill justices of the bench.

Meanwhile Lawyers for the three, Godwin Ako Gunn, Alistair Nelson and Maase Salifu have petitioned the Prresident Mahama to bid mercy for their clients by invoking his prerogative of mercy powers under Article 72 of the 1992 Constitution.
